The Retaking Of New Orleans (The Ballad Of Gen. Russell Honore)

When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans
She destroyed many buildings and split the trees
A great flood came and swamped the city
Many did perish and what remained was not pretty

In the days which ensued the hungry cried
The many elderly drowned and many sick soon died
Rebels surfaced to plunder and rape
Trapped in the ruins the refugees could not escape

When hope seemed lost and complete catastrophe neared
A chopper landed and a "John Wayne-looking dude" appeared
Yelling and cursing for the troops to get out in the fray
This was the entrance of General Russell Honore

He ordered the soldiers to keep their guns pointed down
But deal with the unrest with a heavy hand in the town
Strength of the government and order ensued
He then fed the starving with water and food

As he walked the street corner he saw a weakened lady
Ran up to her and grabbed up her falling babies
He told this woman he would get them help today
General Honore came and New Orleans was saved
