Power Struggle

Who will achieve dominance
To stand above the other?
Who will fight for prominence
Over their lover?

Society strives for equality
That our treatment should be the same
But in every relationship
We play an instinctual game

There should be a leader and the rest will follow
Within lifes social herds
Somebody has to be above the others
As in packs of wolves or flocks of birds

Its a sad truth humanity is the same
That this intoxicating quest for power gain
Can corrupt togetherness and cooperation
And provoke a confrontation

Steadfast resolve breeds conflict
Neither will bend to the others interests
The outcome is never positive
In a clashing of stubborn minds and spirits

Who will listen and who will speak?
Which will decide and who will be meek?
Who is the strong and who is the weak?
What is the role in this life we all seek?

It is in our nature
To have a chain of command
And there is no mutual respect
In this egotistical untamed land

We cannot avoid this battle for the top of the hill
Nor can we break free of the animal inside
Who will submit to the others will
Or end up leaving it all behind?
